C & O Canal

While at Maryland’s Great Falls Park the dramatic Potomac river gets most of the attention including mine.  However, paralleling the river is the C&O Canal, occasionally referred to as the “Grand Old Ditch,” operated from 1831 until 1924. It runs from Cumberland, Maryland to Washington, DC and is 185.5 miles long. A quiet contrast to the roaring river.
