Olympic Peninsula
Port Blakely Harbor
We spent Thanksgiving on Bainbridge Island and visited Port Blakely which, at one time, was one of the world’s largest sawmills. I thought it would be interesting to see the results of shooting this sailboat directly into the Sun.

Drift Log
A solitary piece of driftwood on the shoreline of Puget Sound near Fay Bainbridge Park.
Fort Ward Trail
Fort Ward Park is a state park located along Rich Passage on the southern end of Bainbridge Island. This is a hiking trail that runs a couple miles through the park.
Gassan Lake
My son and his family live on Bainbridge Island, WA and we have the opportunity to visit them a few times a year. If you like to hike and take photos, this is the place to do it. Gasson Lake Trail is about 5 miles round trip and fairly level. This shot is on the backside of the lake. It took some bushwhacking to get to this spot as the trail didn’t come this way.
Yesterday’s Docks
Port Gamble is on the Kitsap Peninsula and these docks were used to load lumber ships which sailed world wide in the early 19th century.
Reflection Pool
This pool, on Bainbridge Island, was built and dedicated to Virginia Bloedel by her husband Prentice.
Ludlow Falls
According to my map the Olympic Peninsula has 29 waterfalls. They all require some level of walking or hiking. Some harder than others. Ludlow Falls is an easy one as the trail is well maintained and not too far or steep. In the typical nanny state fashion there is a large green fence that “protects’ you from falling in and/or getting too close. In order to get a clean shot you have to pre-focus, compose, then raise your tripod higher than you can reach and use the remote release. This photo is of the upper end of the falls. In order to get the lower end you would have to wade upstream and around the fence. That would be better done in the summer. This day was very cold.
