Returned today from a week on Kauai. I will be posting some other shots but this is what we saw on our last night there. Pretty iconic shot but I never get tired of seeing them and shooting them.
Sunsets
Tahoe Boathouse
On our last day in Tahoe I walked down to the lake shore to get a sunset and saw this boathouse. There was some controlled burning in the area which gave part of the sky and distant clouds the orange hue.
Red Rock Shadows
I’ve been to Sedona many times so the challenge is to find different ways to show off the beauty of this area. This evening the setting sun cast long shadows across the rocks.
Palouse Windmill
This was taken at sunset with cross lighting using my Mamiya 7 and Fuji Velvia 50. It very much represents the look and feel of Palouse.
Pickett’s Charge
On this day, July 3, 150 years ago, Pickett’s Charge marked the effective culmination of The Battle of Gettysburg. I visited Gettysburg last summer and captured this photo of a statue that sits atop Cemetery Ridge. This statue represents the Union soldiers that were out of ammunition, using their rifles as clubs in this bitter and costly fight.
I posted this a year ago but there are new people visiting my blog so I hope those who have seen it don’t mind.
Goodbye Maui
Mesquite Sand Dunes
Death Valley’s Mesquite Sand Dunes is 2 miles south of Stovepipe Wells Village. There is a parking lot but you have to hike 2 miles or more to get out to the largest dunes. I found that if you park 1/4 of a mile north of the lot and off the side of the road you can hike to dunes that the tourists don’t get to. The importance of that, for a photograph, is there are no foot prints to spoil the pristine nature of dunes. I took photos at sunset and sunrise and this one was at sunset.
Venice Island Sunset
Sunset at Pickett’s Charge
We spent the day at Gettysburg. It was our first time and we enjoyed a day-long guided tour. After dinner, the lure of sunset was too hard to resist. This monument, overlooking the valley of Pickett’s charge, represents Union soldiers using their rifles as clubs after running out of bullets. Gettysburg is an awesome place and so glad we came.
Getting Started
I’ve been thinking about setting up a photo blog and having used Word Press in the past I came here to try it out. I’m not sure how long the process will take but in the mean time I wanted to have a first post and include a photo to see how it looks. I might try other themes or have one custom-made. In the meantime enjoy a Kauai Sunset.
